Celebrating Pride with Kids

Celebrate with BANZ®

Pride Parades, Little Ones & Loud Crowds

How to bring your whole family to Pride celebrations this summer — with sun protection, hearing protection, and zero compromise on fun.

Pride season means parades, music, parties, and community — and more families are bringing their littlest members along for the celebration than ever before. Whether you're marching in a parade, dancing at a festival stage, or just out enjoying a sunny Pride weekend downtown, a few simple precautions go a long way toward making the day comfortable for everyone, including your kids.

Pride events share a lot in common with concerts and parades: big crowds, loud music, long hours outdoors, and a lot of excitement. For babies and toddlers, that combination means it's worth thinking ahead about two things — their ears and their skin.

The Sound of Celebration — and What It Means for Little Ears

Parade routes are loud. Festival main stages are loud. Even the cheering of a crowd can add up over the course of an afternoon. Children's ears are more sensitive to noise than adult ears, and long exposure — even at levels that don't feel uncomfortable to adults — can affect developing hearing.

75dB
Safe for 8 hours of exposure
80dB

10x
Intensity increase before your ear notices a change in volume

That last stat is the one most parents don't expect: sound has to become ten times more intense before our ears perceive it as "a little louder." Which means a parade route that sounds lively to you could be delivering far more sound energy to a child's ears than it seems.

"We brought earmuffs for the parade and sunglasses for the after-party in the park — by the end of the day our toddler was still smiling, not melting down."

Sun-Soaked Celebrations Need Sun Protection Too

Pride events are often all-day affairs — and most of that day is spent outdoors with little shade. Between the parade route, the festival grounds, and the walk back to the car, that's hours of UV exposure on developing skin and eyes.

👀  Eyes

UV400 sunglasses block the full spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays — especially important on bright days when kids are looking up at floats, flags, and performers for hours.

🧢  Skin

UPF 50+ sun hats protect the ears, neck, and scalp — areas that are easy to miss with sunscreen and get the most sun exposure during a parade.

A Simple Plan for Pride Day

  • Before you go: pack hearing protection, sunglasses, and a sun hat — Pride events are long days with no shortage of both noise and sun.
  • At the parade: put earmuffs on before the floats and music start — it's much easier than trying to calm an overwhelmed toddler mid-parade.
  • At the festival: find shade for breaks, keep sunglasses on, and reapply sunscreen every couple of hours.
  • All day: bring water, snacks, and a stroller with good sun coverage — comfort goes a long way toward making the whole day enjoyable.

Every Family, Celebrating Together

Pride is about community, joy, and showing up for each other — and that includes the youngest members of the family. With a little preparation, every generation can be part of the celebration comfortably, from the parade route to the festival grounds and everywhere in between.
