How to fit BANZ® earmuffs
in 60 seconds

BANZ earmuffs are independently tested to NRR 26 dB, and that protection depends on a good seal. Here's how to get it right every time.

Watch the fit

The 6-step fit check

  1. Start with the right size. Baby Earmuffs are for newborn to 2 years. Kids Earmuffs are for ages 2 and up.
  2. Open the headband and hold the earmuffs over your child's head with the band running across the top.
  3. Cover the whole ear. Each cushion should surround the ear completely, with no part of the ear folded or pinched inside the cup.
  4. Clear the seal. Move hair, hat brims and glasses arms out from under the cushions. Anything under the edge lets sound in.
  5. Adjust to snug, not tight. Slide the band until the cups sit securely without pressing. If a finger slips easily under a cushion, tighten it.
  6. Do the shake test. Ask your child to shake their head gently. The cups should stay put. Check again after 10 minutes: no red marks means the fit is comfortable.

Why fit matters: NRR 26 is a lab rating. Real-world protection depends on a good seal and how long your child spends in the noise, so check the fit, take breaks from the loudest spots, and move further from speakers or engines when you can. How ratings work →

Tips for babies
  • The band sits on the sides of the head, not on the soft spot.
  • Put earmuffs on before the noise starts, ideally while baby is calm or drowsy.
  • Try them at home for a few minutes before the big day.
  • Great for naps in loud places. Check the fit whenever baby shifts position.
Time to size up?
  • The Baby headband is at its largest setting.
  • The cups no longer cover the whole ear.
  • Your child is 2 or older and the band leaves marks.

Fit questions

How tight should kids' earmuffs be?

Snug, not tight. The cups should stay in place when your child moves their head, without pressing hard or leaving red marks after 10 minutes. If you can slide a finger under a cushion easily, tighten the band.

Do glasses or hats affect protection?

Yes. Anything under the edge of the cushion breaks the seal and lets sound in. Move hair, hats and glasses arms out from under the cushions for the best protection.

Can my baby sleep in BANZ earmuffs?

Yes, they're soft and low profile, which makes them good for naps on flights and in loud places. Check the fit whenever your baby shifts position, and supervise use.

How do I clean BANZ earmuffs?

Wipe the cushions and headband with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let them air dry fully before storing. Store them folded in a case between uses.
