Every parent knows the moment. You are halfway across the zoo, the stadium, or the theme park, and a small voice says, "I need to go. Now." Suddenly the whole day bends around one question: where is the nearest bathroom?
We talk a lot about not over-scheduling family outings. Kids do better when they are allowed to set the pace, linger at the animal they love, and take breaks before they hit empty. But a slower pace only works when you are not anxious about the basics. Knowing where a clean, accessible restroom sits along your route is one of the simplest ways to relax into the day.
Our pick: Dunny Dash
A free public restroom finder that runs right in your phone's browser. Listings show wheelchair access, baby-change facilities, opening hours and parking, with one-tap directions.

Plan ahead for the big days out
Our favorite part of Dunny Dash for planning: it has restroom guides for popular family destinations, including zoos, aquariums, theme parks, stadiums and national parks. Before a big day, look up where the restrooms, baby care centers and family rooms are, and build your breaks around them.
How to plan a calmer day out
- Look up restrooms before you leave. Note two or three along your route, and flag the ones with baby change or accessible stalls.
- Build breaks around them. A bathroom stop is a natural reset point for snacks, water, sunscreen and a few quiet minutes.
- Let your child set the pace between stops. When you know where the next break is, you do not need to rush.
- Pack a small "bathroom kit." Wipes, a change of clothes, a portable changing pad and hand sanitizer.
- Bring earmuffs for loud restrooms. Hand dryers can be surprisingly loud for little ears. Our guide to everyday sounds to watch explains why, and a pair of BANZ® kids earmuffs or baby earmuffs in the bag makes the moment easier for sound-sensitive kids.
